Defenders #1 is an amazing read, make no mistake. It is a deceptively meaty tome. it setups an amazing start for a team book as whole. matt fraction finds a voice for each of the heroes which makes them all click together. Terry and Rachel Dodsons’ art is very amazing art for such a team. For Matt Fraction diehards, I think you’re going to be very surprised at the tone and content that Defenders has to offer, which I’ll be the first to say reads very little like much of what he’s written in the past. In that regard, props to him for stretching himself, even if it does feel like he’s goofing off a bit. But considering this book was also billed as one that would explain the connective tissue of the Marvel Universe, there’s surprisingly little exposition for any new readers who want to get on board with this high-potential cast of characters. It’s a very loose style of writing, which may bug people who want their logic tight and their themes prevalent. it is amazing how fraction finds such a way to setup an amazing frist issue for this classic gem of a team series. he is showing us a new fraction that can strech himselve to a diffrent place. i give him and his art team props for giving me the best number 1 issue i ever read for a comic series. it is a book that shows you that number 1′s can setup stories and leave it open for team setup and such. it feels like it all clicks. it is amazing read form start to finsh. i never wanted it to end. art 10/10 story 10/10 plot 10/10 overall 10/10 amazing 10 star book read it now
